Aptos™ threads are a resorbable thread with multidirectional and specially designed barbs that enhance the force of tissue holding. As we age the supporting tissue of the cheeks weakens and starts to sag, facial fat is lost, the jaw line that used to be firm and tight forms jowls at the edges of the mouth that drift down towards the chin and the lower face and neck sags. This sagging or drooping action of the tissue is referred to by doctors as ptosis.
Thread lifting is a procedure available that can lift, contour and suspend the sagging tissues of the face, neck and body; in those people who need only little to moderate rejuvenation. Threads are placed underneath the skin and subcutaneous suturing of soft tissues. This treatment is a non-invasive procedure with minimal downtime. It is performed under local anaesthetic and will provide, noticeable lifting, new collagen growth and increase microcirculation.
Typically, the thread lift procedure can be completed within an hour and you can return home within a few hours. There is no scarring associated with thread lifting and results usually last for 3-4 years.

What is different about these new threads and how do they compare to the older type of threads?
The new generation Aptos™ absorbable revitalizing threads are very different to the older type of threads. These new absorbable threads have the advantage of dissolving within 9 to 12 months, yet still maintaining the revitalizing effect for several years to come before another procedure is considered. The other advantage of these new generation threads is the unique design utilising specially developed and patented soft barbs (also known as cogs) that attach to the surrounding tissue (just like Velcro) helping to hold the skin in place to achieve the desired lift. How do they work?
The revitalizing threads have a unique design and utilise specially developed and patented soft barbs (also known as cogs) that attach to the surrounding skin tissue (just like Velcro) to hold the skin in place and achieve the desired lift effect . The resulting beneficial effect can be achieved quickly and without any visible scars. Your doctor may also choose the absorbable Aptos™ threads; these threads dissolve within 9 to 12 months but still maintain the revitalizing effect for several years before another procedure is considered.
For the mid face procedure a tiny incision is made close to the ear and the threads are positioned towards the chin and jaw line creating a firm hold on the underlying tissues without causing any trauma. The soft barbs (or cogs) hold to the tissue as they are gently contoured into place.
How long does the procedure last?
This depends on the number of threads being used in the procedure; however most procedures take 45 to 60 minutes. During this time you are under a local anaesthetic and light sedation. All patients receive a local anaesthetic and light sedation and as a result feel little if any discomfort. The important point is that this procedure does not require hospitalization and patients can return home within 1 to 2 hours after the procedure. Your doctor will give you specific guidelines at the time of consultation.
When can I get back to my usual social life?
The majority of patients resume normal social activities within a few days. Your doctor will advise you on this point as there are some follow up requirements to ensure the best result.
What are the possible side effects?
Occasionally some local discomfort or light pain may occur; this can be treated with oral analgesics. Sometimes local bruising may be evident. Cold compresses are recommended for the first 2 hours after the procedure. Your doctor will explain more fully at the time of consultation.
Can this procedure be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
It is not uncommon to have this procedure combined with other cosmetic procedures such as Botulinum toxin to reduce facial muscle activity; Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid or fat to enhance skin volume; and FraxelTM laser therapy to improve skin texture and collagen formation.
